Hi Tom,
Have you heard about the Bicycle Commuter Benefits Act signed into law by President Bush on Oct. 3? It sounds great.

That is true. I talked to person who ran the Minneapolis Public Library FOL bookstore, and he said that he rides pretty much all year. He just bundles up in the Winter. It's a very beautiful and friendly city.

I had to leave the meeting before it was over since I was riding all the way home, so I'm not sure how it ended or if any ideas came up about how to educate drivers and cyclists. I will probably do my exhibit at the beginning of the Fall semester, since there will be more students around then.

Hey Tom,
I mostly bike for fun, but I have rode to work several times. My schedule makes it difficult for me to bike to work. I pick up my grandson two evenings a week and take him home on my way to work the following mornings. That takes up 4 of the 5 work days. One to two days a week, I am interning at a regional library that is 60-70 miles away...can't bike that day. As a library director, I have to run errands and attend meetings, so that complicates the matter as far as riding goes. Maybe that is why I love it so much when I actually get to ride! I saw your picture of the road you ride to work. Do you ride on the main road going with the traffic?

It is nice to see there are several librarians who are also bikers. I don't get to ride as much as I would like, but it is something I enjoy tremendously. -And good luck with the vegetables...I have plans for a herb garden and began this year by planting sage. The fond memories of my grandmother's Thanksgiving dressing with sage from her garden prompted it. -Love your blog.

JSTOR & Facebook

This morning I helped a patron with off campus access to JSTOR. I was surprised to find that JSTOR now uses facebook as a way to provide information and help. I thought this a great and practical use of facebook. If an individual can become a fan of JSTOR, couldn't a library?

You can call me spud

Last weekend I finally dug out my potatoe beds. They plants looked awful and I really wasn't expecting much. It looked to me like the plants were diseased and died. So to my shock I found under the first plant several medium, and a few large and tiny potatoes. I ended up with about thi… Continue

Back from Vacation

I'm back from visiting Maine and have been busy with a new project at the library. I think I finally caught up. Phew!

My vacation was enjoyable. I played cards with family, went fishing in a nearby lake, biked everyday, and ate entirely way too much--- and lost some weight. Biking has… Continue

Zucchini

Here I am standing next to a zucchini plant. My garden went in overdrive this weekend. Stringbeans, summer squash, and zucchini are all coming in. I have lots of yellow flowers and a couple of tomatos starting on the tomato plants. I picked some onions and a red potato this weekend as w… Continue

Pass the Peas

I harvested the first produce from my garden last night. I picked a bowful of peas, removed the pods and enjoyed them as a nice addtion to the chicken breasts on the grill. My wife came home late from her bike commute (she rides 3 miles) and I was stating to worry a little when she pull… Continue
