Hi, librarian ladies! My name is Gina Wiser and I'm serving as an interim librarian at Head Middle School in Nashville. I graduated from MTSU with my M.Ed degree with a concentration in Library Science in December 2008, and am hoping to land a full-time job in MNPS or in Wilson County in the fall. I joined this group because I love finding new internet resources and networking with other librarians!

Hey Gina,
I just joined this group! I am an MLIS student at Trevecca but I also have a 6th grade son at Head Middle School!
I hope your interim position goes smoothly!

Now remember, no all librarians are ladies. :-) As a gentleman, I have been a librarian "by degree" since 2003 (MS, UT-Knoxville), though have worked in a library since I was working on my Bachelor's degree at Trevecca, starting in 1991 (graduated 1994). This particular tool will be a great resource to communicate and interact with others, as well as introduce users to the whole concept of social networking (so don't be surprised if you see others from Trevecca on here - :-) ).

FYI - I am now at Vanderbilt University after spending a couple years at Nashville Public and eleven at Trevecca before then. I love what I do and enjoy working with information technology.

Glad to have you here Jamen. Thanks for sharing your work experiences.

At Nashville Public we loved having Jamen who not only understood the technical aspects of library work but also what it is to be a librarian. :-)

I found that some of my best professors in my program at UTK were the ones with recent practical experience. I look forward to Jamen's input here too.

I do agree, which is one of the reasons I jumped at the chance to teach this course when it was open several years ago. But what is fun is that I almost always learn just as much from the students as they learn from me. And they always find neat tools that I then utilize in my current library environment! :-)

Hello, My name is Stella White and I'm working on a wavier at Tom Joy Elementary in the library. I am in school at Trevecca working on my MLIS degree. I was just introduced to this website in class the other day. Have you found a full-time job yet? Keep looking. They are out there.

sadly, gcast is now charging a subscription fee ($99/year) & limits to only 2 hours/90 day period. Anyone know of a free podcasting that uses the telephone? We've done puppet shows, interviews & other projects using the telephone.

Pamela, would Talk Shoe be useful? http://www.talkshoe.com/

talkshoe looks like it might be an option; however, in the terms of agreement, children under 13 require a signed agreement by their parents. Since I'm in a middle school, most of our kids are under 13! I'll explore it further & look for a more kid-friendly option.

Hooray - Learn and Discover is operational again! I certainly learned a lot and enjoyed doing it last time so I look forward to the surprises that happen when folks share discoveries of their own.
