I have thoroughly enjoyed all the new skills I have picked up because of this activity. A great big Thank You. I am also planning to go back and look at some of the things I missed.
I've had several people ask me about privacy settings on sites like Goodreads. I probably should be more concerned than I have been about this issue--but if there is maybe a social networking 101 for privacy/security--it might be helpful. I've bumped around and found privacy settings in Facebook and Goodreads, I know about setting up "junk" e-mail accounts that you can then discontinue if they start getting spammed, but I know there's probably more to look for/look at/do in this regard.
That's a terrific idea, Ronda. It took some time for me to figure out how to configure my Facebook privacy settings to be exactly the way I wanted them. I'm sure a lot of people aren't aware of or haven't had time to fiddle with all of the ways to customize privacy settings on popular sites.
Yep. I'm still playing with my privacy settings on Facebook. I know people who are very nervous about signing up for anything like FB or Goodreads BECAUSE of privacy issues, and I know rightly know how to answer their questions--sometimes the "help" features aren't much help.
I'll talk to the moderators on Rd. 2 about possibly fitting in mini-lesson re: privacy. For now though, here's some advice from F.B. themselves: http://www.allfacebook.com/2009/02/facebook-privacy/

I have really enjoyed this experience. The best part for me is that I have been able to do things in my own time. My new baby often sets the pace for me these days, so I have loved doing bits here and there when I had a few minutes. I am excited to share some of the things I have learned with other librarians in my system. Please keep Round 2 as flexible and easy to jump back into on a moment's notice!
Thank you for putting this all together!
Hi Paige! I'm glad that the flexibility worked for you. We're planning on having Round Two function in pretty much the same way...but with all new lessons!
I can't wait to see what is in store for us in July! This has been a great way to learn new ways to use the internet/technology and practice on some of the skills I already had. Thanks for all your hard work putting this together!
I have loved this! I started and ended the program a little late, but it has been so helpful to hop in and out as I have time. I have learned so much from everyone!
I'm curious, though... will these lessons still be available somewhere on the site for reference after this session is over? I have found myself logging in several times from work and elsewhere because I remembered something from the program that I wanted to access again. I can always create my own file of this information, but I wasn't going to worry about it if these pages are going to remain open.
