TENN-SHARE

Howdy again. As a bit of an OCD reader (must have a book, must-usually-read a series in order, etc.), I am always on the lookout for ideas as to what to read next. For that reason, I find myself striking up conversations with total strangers if I see them reading a book that looks interesting. My current reading rut is mystery with a healthy dollop of the occasional fantasy thrown in for good measure. I was thinking this might be a good place to discuss what we're reading--old faves, new finds--you get the idea. So, to start us off. . . .

My latest reads this summer, in no particular order:

Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan (4th book in the Percy Jackson series)
Sweet Revenge by Diane Mott Davidson
Children of the Lamp: The Akhenaten Adventure by J.B. Kerr
The Book of Old Houses (Home Repair is Homicide mystery) by Sarah Graves

I'm currently reading:

Conscious Classroom Management by Rick Smith
Ranger's Apprenctice: The Battle for Skandia by John Flanagan

I just finished "Eat, Pray, Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert
I am just beginning "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini
I am reading "Library 2.0, A Guide to Participatory Library Service" by Michael E. Casey and laura C. Savastinuk
Did you like Eat, Pray, Love? I've got a copy sitting on my desk waiting for me to open it up and start reading, but haven't gotten to it yet. I heard an interview with the author and it made me want to read the book. Another one, similar vein, that was recommended to me (but haven't started either) was The Secret. I'm wondering what people are thinking about that one as well. It was recommended to me by one of my male high school students.
I LOVED IT! I thought it was a great read. I have also read "The Secret" and enjoyed it as well. I found both books inspiring.
I'll second the recommendation for Eat, Pray, Love and I don't read much "inspirational" literature.
Eat, Pray, Love is wonderful!!
The Secret, too is a must read.
I *heart* Eat, Pray, Love !!! It makes my heart happy that other people are reading it. I think they even had as a part of the TSLA book club recently, according to Lori in Archives.
I am reading "Can't Buy me Love" a new narrative about the Beatles
One of my colleagues highly recommends "Can't Buy Me Love". It was written by a friend and former bandmate of his from 25 years ago. I have not read it yet.
Aww mannnnn! Now the song is running through my head and promises to pop out at unexpected times (such as at the grocery store when you don't realize you're singing along to the tune in your head). ;D Time to fire up the Ipod and listen to the Beatles stash (and find a copy of the book).
Has anyone seen the movie, Across the Universe? I'm such a huge Beatles fan that I wasn't sure how I would feel about it. Finally, I gave in and have watched it, while sharing it with different friends, four times in the last two months. I definitely recommend it.
Hey, Christi. Our son watched it while at governor's school and raved about it. So, it's on our list. He says it's a "must see" movie.
Hi, Christi -

We finally watched Across the Universethis weekend and it's now a favorite. I wouldn't have thought that simply viewing a movie could bring both the music I love(d) and the essence of an era back to life, but it did.

Your recommendation is spot on. Thanks!

Mona
