I’ve been playing with the streaming audio sites in the last two days and had lots of fun. Ever since I moved to US, I missed my favorite singers and wasn’t able to keep up with the current popular songs at my home county. In the past youtube helped me a lot in terms of finding and replaying my favorite songs and listening to new Chinese titles. Now I’m thrilled to be able to create a personalized radio station from last.fm and listening to all my beloved songs in my language!

Pandora’s pre-set genre station is cool, but the site won’t accept Chinese input at all, and I wasn’t able to get any Chinese singers and songs. Compared to Pandora, both Songza and last.fm accept other language input. Although for artists from other country, information is often incomplete, album may not available, tracks may be coming from youtube, it is still good enough for me to create my personalized station. Imaging that I will be able to play my Chinese music background tomorrow when I go back to work!

I also think the summary page of the artists very useful in helping me to learn western musicians and their albums.

What an excellent idea for using a site to learn about about a particular culture while also staying in touch with the culture of your youth. Thanks for writing about your experiences, Tao You.
