I haven't used a book swapping site like BookMooch, but my 14-year old nephew certainly has! His summer pleasure reading has included Fear and Loathing in America and A Clockwork Orange -- I love that he's allowed to choose whatever he wants to read!
On the other hand, I found a book using Google Book Search that I needed to read for some committee work; I had a hard copy, but not with me at that instant. I found it much easier to slog through the online version than the print, probably because I could easily scroll as I read. It also let me get past the opening chapters of extreme dullness and get to the good (or at least somewhat better) bits.
Those online books have some advantages that I am just beginning to appreciate. When books are as quick to search as web pages, then we're on to something.
I have been a goodreads member for almost a year now. I'm a member of several groups that give me great recommendations on what to read next in my favorite genres. It's hard to say which list of books is my favorite - I've got one with weather books, one with evil genius books, and of course, the required vampire/PNR shelf. If you want to be goodreads friends with me, my screen name is pianogal, or you can just go to my profile here and click on my goodreads bookshelf. It should take you to my page.
If you can't decide which activity to try, I'd highly recommend goodreads. :)
I'm a little late responding today, but I'm really excited about this week's tasl. I've been meaning to ask you about goodreads. I had noticed it on your Homepage. Once I get through these posts and get my thoughts gathered, I intend to give it a whirl. I'll keep you posted.
I have been meaning to signup with Library Thing for a long time, now I have started it.
All my books are at home, of course, so will have to continue later. As for swapping books-no way, I usually love the books I get, and I'm keeping them! I guess it would be good if you didn't like a book!
